Thornwick Equine Services was founded through our passion and knowledge of horses, wanting to turn this into a career which we can enjoy and use to support others. The name Thornwick comes from our beautiful Irish Sport Horse whose name is Thornwick Rommel, known to his friends as Monty, who we sadly lost at the beginning of 2024 due to an accident he sustained in his field. He lived to the ripe old age of 29, and he will forever be remembered.
My passion for animals started at a young age, growing up with all manner of animals including dogs, cats and birds. I soon came to relish in the feeling of peace and tranquility being around animals and knew that I had found my calling.
In 2005 I attended Otley College in Suffolk where I studied for 2 years to achieve a Foundation and First Diploma in Animal Care. Not long after finishing College I fell into the Equine world purely by accident, when a crash course at the British Racing School in Newmarket was advertised. However, after sustaining a confidence knock while on the course, I transferred to working towards an NVQ 2 in Broodmare Management at the National Stud as I still wanted to be a part of the Equine Industry.
I have had many incredible opportunities over the past 15 years in various different Equestrian settings. These include, but are not limited to:
I am currently working towards my BHS Stages and eventually would like to work towards my Teaching Qualifications, however I am concentrating on studying for my BHS Stages first. I always put the health and well being of all my animals first and that is something I strive to achieve for any animals in my care.It is paramount to us that all animals feel comfortable and loved when cared for and we aim to ensure that we give 110% to every service.
I've always had a love for all animals, having had cats from a very young age to once being found curled up in a dog bed with 6 puppies. I first got introduced to the world of horses when I was 10, taking up a horse riding activity as part of a summer camp close to where I lived. I found a sense of peace when around them and loved it so much that I begged my parents to let me learn more, eventually ending up spending all weekend down at my local riding stables and learning to ride.
I attended Bishop Burton College in 2010 where I studied Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management. I studied here for two years before continuing to University to study BSc Equine Studies, once again at Bishop Burton College. I learnt so much during my 5 years here, and it was part of my course doing two weeks of Work Experience on a Dressage Yard where I landed my first job!
Over the past 12 years I have worked as a Yard Manager on a top class Dressage Yard, been a part of Olympic Show Jumper Geoff Billington's home and away team and became Yard Manager at the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary. Some of the various skills I have achieved over the many years working with horses include, but are not limited to:
I am actively working towards achieving my teaching qualifications as well as continuing to learn as much as I can in the Equine Industry to better the lives of horses. Our aim is to bring our knowledge and experience to others, offering a helping hand where we can and ensuring all horses are given the care and compassion they deserve.
